Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation Establishes First Advisory Board

MCSF Engages Corporate, Military Leaders to Support Marine Families

ALEXANDRIA, VA (March 3, 2017) – To further expand its commitment to bold and innovative leadership in delivery of its Scholarship Program, the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation has established its first Advisory Board. The Advisory Board will continue the Scholarship Foundation’s commitment to diverse and collaborative leadership from leaders in all areas of industry, service and philanthropy.

Good governance and innovative leadership is critical to the Scholarship Foundation’s ability to keep faith with Marine families and maintain public trust, which it has earned through its 55 years of mission success, accountability and transparency.

We can and must support their children and families,” said Advisory Board Member and CEO of General Dynamics Phebe Novakovic. “The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation provides a way we can all repay this debt and has done so for more than 50 years. This is a cause I proudly salute.”

“We’re honored to be the beneficiaries of the diverse professional and personal experiences represented on the Foundation’s inaugural Advisory Board,” said Scholarship Foundation President and CEO Margaret Davis.
The Advisory Board will provide advice and support on topics such as Scholarship Foundation programs, strategic planning, mission impact and Marine Corps family support. If You Can, You Must Scholarship Initiative

More than 14 years ago, Dakota Meyer, a U.S. Marine serving in the War in Afghanistan, risked his life to bravely save the lives of U.S. and Afghan forces in the Battle of Ganjgal. For his actions, he was awarded the Medal of Honor, the first living Marine in more than forty years to receive the award. Since leaving active duty, Dakota has embraced opportunities for continued service. Through his partnership with the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation, the “If You Can, You Must” Scholarship will provide educational scholarships to the children of Marines and inspire the future leaders of America.
