The 242nd Birthday of the United States Marine Corps
by Lieutenant General George J. Trautman III USMC (Ret.), Chairman, Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation
On November 10, Marines everywhere will commemorate the 242nd birthday of the United States Marine Corps. For Marines, it’s a time to celebrate the special bonds that exist among us. To be a Marine is to be part of a family, one that defines our time together and connects us long after our service has ended.
That common commitment to our Marine Corps family is what inspires our work every day at the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation – where, for 55 years, we’ve upheld the promise that no Marine family will ever have to sacrifice an education for their children.
Sons and daughters of Marines serve in their own way – growing up early and learning the meaning of sacrifice firsthand. These young people translate those same values we learned in service and put them to work as leaders in their classrooms and communities. Thank you for your generous support and for Honoring Marines by Educating Their Children.
Semper Fidelis,
Lieutenant General George J. Trautman II USMC (Ret.)
