Marine Scholar Update: The Smith Family
The three Smith family children—Chase, Corey and Shay—all are hardworking, dedicated, and collegiate athletes. They have something else in common; they are all Marine Scholars.
The oldest, Chase, was one of the captains of the soccer team and majored in finance at Schreiner University while participating in their honors program. He dreamed of becoming an entrepreneur, and since graduating, has gone on to start and manage his own small business. Chase says he looks up to his father and strives to embody the traits he learned in the Marines: “to think quickly, act with confidence, and maintain high integrity.”
Corey echoes his brother’s sentiments, saying that their dad is “extremely organized, hard-working, and prepared for anything at any time.” He has channeled that inspiration into his goal of becoming a physical therapist. Corey will graduate this spring from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, where he played on the soccer team, and has already been accepted into a graduate school physical therapy program.
Their sister, Shay, also attends the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor, where she majors in exercise physiology, with a minor in business. While playing on the University’s soccer team, she is also an assistant coach for a youth girls’ team in Texas. One day she hopes to start her own personal training business to help people become healthier. Her scholarship is “changing [her] life” and has “opened up the possibilities for [her] future greatly.”
Each of the Smith children embodies the values their father, Corporal Carl Smith, learned from his time in the Marines. All of them state what a blessing their scholarships have been as they continue to pursue their own professional goals. Carl recently said that he believes the foundation to be “one of the biggest of the many benefits I have received from my service.”
The Smith family shows what a tremendous impact your support makes for both those that have served our country in the Marine Corps and their children. Marine Scholars carry on the values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment that they learn growing up in a Marine household. From the Smith family and everyone at the Scholarship Foundation, thank you for your commitment to honoring Marines by educating their children.
