Donor Advised Funds

A Tax-Smart, Flexible Way to Support the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation

As you plan your philanthropic goals, consider streamlining your contributions through a donor advised fund (DAF). Donor advised funds are easy to establish at many financial institutions or community foundations, which will then make grants to recommended nonprofits on your behalf.

DAFs are easy to use, offer added flexibility around the timing of your gifts, and favorable tax benefits. Gifts to a DAF are generally eligible for immediate tax deduction, and DAFs grow tax-free – allowing you to maximize your impact for Marine families.

You may also choose to have any remaining DAF funds distributed to the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation after your lifetime by naming the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation as a beneficiary of all or a portion of remaining funds. Please use our legal name, “Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation” and Federal Tax ID: 22-1905062.

Let us Know About Your Gift

If you choose to give through a DAF, please let us know so we may thank you for your investment in the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation and notify you once your gift has been received:

Designating your DAF Gift

When you make a gift to a DAF, you will receive an immediate tax receipt from the DAF and relinquish control of the funds.

If you would like your DAF gift to support a specific event, scholarship, or campaign, please ensure that your intent is included in the grant letter sent to the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation from the DAF organization.

Supporting an Event with your DAF Gift

The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation welcomes DAF gifts for general support or recognition at an event. However, IRS regulations prohibit using DAF contributions to cover any costs that provide a direct personal benefit to the investor, including event tickets or reserved seating. The full admission fee to attend the event must be paid separate from any DAF gift.

If you wish to attend an event and receive benefits such as seating, please plan to cover the cost of attendance through a separate personal investment. To ensure your event gift through a DAF is credited as you intend, please contact Porter Hayes, Senior Director of Philanthropy, at Porter.Hayes@mcsf.org or (603) 770-8320.

80 Years, 80 Miles in His Honor

Eighty years ago, on June 26, 1944, Sergeant Richard Herman Young, “B” Company, 1st Battalion, 23rd Marines, 4th Marine Division, was killed in action in Saipan during World War II. Now his son, Hal, who is 90 years old, is walking 80 miles in his father's honor.
