Better Business Bureau Gives Scholarship Foundation Highest Rating
The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation has always prided itself on adhering to the highest standards of accountability as an organization by both programmatic and financial measures. We understand that, ultimately, we are the link between investor and scholarship recipient and that it is our responsibility to ensure investors’ funds are managed wisely and for the greatest impact on the sons and daughters of Marines and Navy Corpsmen.
In addition to being rated “Best in America” by Independent Charities of America, the Scholarship Foundation is proud to have achieved all 20 of the Better Business Bureau’s criteria for accredited charities. As part of this accreditation, the Scholarship Foundation will now feature the seal of the Better Business Bureau’s (BBB) Wise Giving Alliance.
What many do not know is that meeting the Alliance’s Standards for Charity Accountability is the culmination of a demanding process. Before the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation could apply to use the seal, we underwent an evaluation by the BBB Wise Giving Alliance, the nation’s most experienced charity evaluator. The evaluation process went beyond superficial metrics. It involved rigorous scrutiny of our governance, effectiveness, finances, investor solicitations, and informational materials. Notably, the standards used by the BBB Wise Giving Alliance go beyond what government regulators require.
Only organizations that achieve a “meets standards” conclusion following their review are eligible to participate in the seal program. Not all do so and participation is entirely voluntary. But the Scholarship Foundation is very proud to have reached every benchmark set throughout the process and looks forward to using the seal as an important symbol of our accountability and ethical practices. As an organization that invests in the children of some of our Nation’s greatest heroes, continually demonstrating those best practices is an integral part of Honoring Marines by Educating Their Children.
