Happy Birthday, Marines

This week, our Nation marks two special occasions. First, on 10 November, the celebration of the 246th birthday of the United States Marine Corps and on 11 November the national observance of Veterans Day.

This year, Marines in war and in our communities, distinguished themselves through their sacrifice and service, adding to the storied history of the Marine Corps.  As we look to the year ahead, we can be sure that our Marines will continue to meet the many complex challenges our Nation will face in an ever dangerous and complex world.  They will do so by continuing to exhibit daily the traits that all Marines and veterans share – mission focus, resilience, discipline, and the “Esprit de Corps,” that guarantees our freedoms and allows our citizens to lead safe and secure lives.  These men and women, Americans, will always place protecting their country and fellow citizens above their own safety. And for this we are grateful.

So as you reflect on these two important days, I want to thank you for your commitment to the larger cause of the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation. The students we invest in, raised by parents who value service above self, strive to serve their communities and become the leaders of tomorrow. By investing in them, you are investing in global citizens who are committed to solving the problems of tomorrow and building a strong future for our Nation.

Thank you for your dedication to our mission of Honoring Marines by Educating Their Children. To our Marine Corps family, Happy 246th Birthday. God Bless our Nation and the citizens that protect the same.

Sincerely,

General Robert B. Neller USMC (Ret.), Chairman

If You Can, You Must Scholarship Initiative

More than 14 years ago, Dakota Meyer, a U.S. Marine serving in the War in Afghanistan, risked his life to bravely save the lives of U.S. and Afghan forces in the Battle of Ganjgal. For his actions, he was awarded the Medal of Honor, the first living Marine in more than forty years to receive the award. Since leaving active duty, Dakota has embraced opportunities for continued service. Through his partnership with the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation, the “If You Can, You Must” Scholarship will provide educational scholarships to the children of Marines and inspire the future leaders of America.
