Honoring Her Father’s Memory: Taylor’s Story

Taylor’s dad was a Marine and his service changed her life forever. “After his death in 2003, my life was never the same,” she told us. “My mother had to raise me on her own without much help.”

But even though she lost her dad, she still counts the Marine Corps as her family. She’s connected with a group of “uncles” – Marines who served with her father – who support her.

And Taylor continues to honor his memory by telling his story. As a psychology major at the University of San Francisco, she’s studying post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injuries – with the goal of helping military veterans after she graduates.

Taylor lives the values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment that her father fought to defend. But she’s not alone. Taylor is one of the recipients of our Heroes Tribute Scholarship for Children of the Fallen. This is one of the most meaningful actions we take for our service members: For Marines who make the ultimate sacrifice, we promise to help their legacy live on in the next generation.

Of course, this is just one part of our broader commitment to military families – that we’ll never leave the child of a Marine behind. We’re proud to offer scholarship support to every eligible child of a Marine. Over the past six decades, we’ve helped nearly 40,000 students put the Marine Corps values to work in their communities.

And we’re honored to share that our Marine Scholars are leaders in their families, schools, and communities – outperforming their peers nearly two to one. These proud sons and daughters of Marines graduate at a rate of 90% – and half are first-generation college students.

During these uncertain times, military families are counting on our continued support more than ever. If you’re able, you can support Children of the Fallen and other children of Marines by making a gift today.

None of this extraordinary work would be possible without generous supporters like you. Thank you for all that you do to support Marines and their families.

Semper Fidelis,
